New cause of diabetes has been discovered. And a group of scientists from Bangladesh is claiming this achievement. This team is led by Dr. Visiting Professor of Bardem Hospital. Madhu S. Malo.
The research article by Bangladeshi scientists has been published in the British medical journal ‘The BMJ Open Diabetes Research and Care’.The title of this article on new causes of diabetes is ‘Intestinal Alkaline Phosphatase Deficiency Increases the Risk of Diabetes’.
According to the article, the risk of diabetes increases when a significant amount of digestive juice in the upper part of the small intestine is reduced. This digestive juice or enzyme is called intestinal alkaline phosphatase, abbreviated IAP. According to Dr. Madhu S. Malo, in the last five years (2015-20), a study of 574 people between the ages of 30 and 60 has revealed this new cause of diabetes.
“People with IAP deficiency have a much higher risk of developing diabetes than those who do not, and those with reduced IAP levels are 13.6 times more likely to develop diabetes,” he said.
He further said that by checking the stool (stool), it will be known within 3 minutes whether there is low IAP in one’s body. Those who are at risk due to the lack of the enzyme can stay diabetic with preventive measures. The researcher sought the help of policy makers and the government to arrange for the use of his prepared kit for stool testing.
